UVDI role in eliminating Covid-19

Computair would like to congratulate our partners, California-based UltraViolet Devices, Inc., on a truly ground-breaking achievement in the ongoing global battle against the coronavirus infection.

On 11th March, UVDI announced that its V-MAX™ UV-C air disinfection technology was proven to eliminate 99.99% of airborne SARS-CoV-2 – the primary viral strain causing COVID-19 – in moving airstream HVAC tests.

This has tremendous potential for infection prevention in a variety of locations, with obvious focus on healthcare but also government and office buildings, schools and airports. In short, all the facilities most crucial in managing a safe return to normality across the globe.

UVDI’s work focuses on airstream and surface disinfection using short wavelength ultraviolet C (UV-C) radiation. UVDI’s V-MAX™ UV-C air disinfection technology works by damaging the DNA of microorganisms, eliminating their ability to reproduce and infect people. Simply put, the technology is effectively cleaning the air of coronavirus micro-organisms.

The testing was conducted independently at Innovative Bioanalysis, a BEI-recognized BSL-3 laboratory in California, using an HVAC-duct test to create the conditions of a moving airstream, such as there would be in a real-life setting. The result of the testing was that UVDI V-MAX™ UV-C air disinfection technology eliminated 99.99% of SARS-CoV-2 in a single pass at an airflow rate of 500 feet per minute.

This is really exciting news, the more so because UVDI are, we believe, the first company to achieve this milestone in the US and possibly beyond. The significance of the development cannot be overstated.

The Computair web team have been working with UVDI on another project, and we can vouch for their passion, commitment and innovative thinking: it makes the collaboration a real pleasure. We are truly delighted at the success of UVDI’s V-MAX™ technology and excited to think of the positive impact it will have on HVAC, and public health, going forward. Congratulations to everyone on the UVDI team!
