40 years of Computair

It’s hard to believe it, but Computair turns 40 in November 2020.

We are so proud that a business which began trading in Nigel Taffs’ spare room in 1980 has not only survived but continues to expand, drive research and development, and most importantly, work in partnership with our many clients across the globe to ensure that our technology meets their needs, both now and in the future.

We have an outstanding team of software developers and an exceptional Managing Director in Richard Phelan, who joined the company as a trainee programmer in 1993, having just completed his post-graduate MSc in Software Engineering. Richard was appointed Technical Director only 4 years later in 1997 and has been pivotal to the company’s success, being at the heart of our core product development strategy and steering our current evolution towards the web and today’s modern platforms.

Whilst our focus is firmly on the future, we think 40 years working successfully in bespoke technical software is worth celebrating.

Join us as we take a look at the early personal computers and different office locations, hear some anecdotes from the early years, consider the technology in use and listen to what it was like to work in programming back then. Big hair, denim jackets and Rayban aviators optional….
